Last week Dr Mark Moore from UNE and some of his Archaeology students as well as Ted Feilds & Bill Kennedy & Allan from the Walgett DEG came out and had a look at some artefacts and trees. They had been in the district awhile looking at Aboriginal sites & did some work out at the Narran Lakes with the local schoolkids. It was a great morning spent with people interested in Australian/Aboriginal history and keen to develop an ongoing relationship with the local community. Hopefully they can get some funding for more detailed research and we will see more of the students and staff from the Archaeology Dept. UNE, Armidale in the future. Another exciting thing was my first blog reply (from my sister in law) who teaches at Goodooga and Lightning Ridge and is hoping to bring some schoolkids out next year on an excursion to see the trees. Allan has agreed to explain some cultural stuff and maybe Ted could show them how to make a coolamon the modern way ( with a chainsaw )….from little things big things grow…
