I was very sorry to lose another lovely old scar tree to lightning strikes again this week. I put it on the home page gallery to mark its passing. The fire didn’t spread because the paddock is always stocked with sheep. Sheep keep the grass low so there is no build up of fuel that leads to destructive blazes. On a more positive note I learned the purpose of the very big scars that seem large enough to be canoe scars. We are so far from the river it seemed unlikely they would cut the bark here then drag it 20 ks across country to use ? Jenny Fernando was out the other day so I asked her and she said simply “ floods “. Of course !!!!! We haven’t had a decent flood for awhile now but when we get one esp. in winter the floodwater hangs around for ages because the ground is so flat. The people would have needed small boats to get around in & to carry children and belongings to higher country. So obvious when you think about it. So thankyou Jenny and Allan for all the knowledge you’ve shared about scartrees and bush tucker and traditional medicine. All the best for 2018 XXXX
